"Postcard" is a long-form video, made to be projected onto the wall at 4" x 3" in scale.

To make Postcard, I first created a freestanding panel out of MDF, canvas, and steel. This panel had a beveled opening in the center with an aspect ratio of 4:3. I set up the panel in a wastewater treatment facility that’s a popular birding destination in Austin. I projected a 39-minute video of the sunset at White Sands National Monument, New Mexico onto the panel. The sun sets over the course of the 29 minute video. During the daylight, the video that’s projected onto the panel is invisible, and the panel functions as an aperture for a view of the birds. As the local sun sets, the central subject darkens and the past sunset that’s being projected onto the canvas becomes visible. Effectively, the visible subject shifts from what is being framed to the frame itself.
